What is the Walking Bus and how does BatOnRoute help?

The Walking Bus is a school transport service on foot where children travel to school accompanied by a responsible adult. It operates with planned routes, fixed stops and set schedules, ensuring safe, organised and punctual mobility.

BatOnRoute facilitates the management of these routes through its app, allowing families to know in real time the location of the adult supervising the children. They also receive automatic notifications when the group arrives at school or begins the journey back home.

Challenges of the walking school route

Concerns for families, schools and local councils

Despite the benefits of the Walking Bus, its implementation can face certain challenges that affect safety, organisation and trust in the walking journey to school:

BatOnRoute solves these problems with a web platform and app that digitalises and optimises the Walking Bus.

Walking Bus: safety every step of the way

BatOnRoute transforms Walking Bus management with a digital solution that makes school travel safe and efficient. Our system offers multiple benefits for schools, families and local councils, ensuring that children can travel in a controlled and organised way.

Families and school coordinators can track the group’s location throughout the route, allowing quick responses to any incidents and ensuring a safe journey.

The system sends real-time alerts about arrivals, incidents, or route changes, giving families peace of mind without the need for calls or manual messages.

The Walking Bus encourages children to walk to school responsibly, improving their health, promoting social interaction, and building independence.

By reducing car use for school journeys, the Pedibús lowers pollution, eases traffic congestion, and creates a safer, more sustainable urban environment.

The solution adapts to the needs of each school or municipality, allowing routes, schedules, and stops to be configured accordingly.

Have questions?

Everything you need to know about BatOnRoute and the walking bus

Can I have different meeting points on my walking bus routes?

Yes. All routes are managed from an administration panel, from which as many meeting points as necessary can be assigned.

Route monitors have an app from which they can mark the students they pick up at each meeting point. Additionally, they can add students who are not assigned to the route.
All this information is recorded in real time while the route is being carried out.

The monitor app has two access modes: Normal Mode with GPS and Read-Only Mode. Only one monitor can access Normal Mode with GPS. The rest of the monitors must access Read-Only Mode if there is already one monitor in Normal Mode.
This is because the app uses the device’s GPS to share location. Therefore, only one mobile device can share location at the same time.

Yes, route monitors can create all kinds of incidents that occur during the journey. These incidents will be reflected in an administration panel from which they can be managed.
Incidents are internal in nature, so families will not be able to view them in their app.

Is there an app to view my child’s walking bus route?

Families can use the BatOnRoute Safe app to track their children’s walking bus route. In addition to viewing the route in real time, they can also receive notifications and check estimated passing times at each stop.

Yes. From the Safe app, families can create absences and occasional trips. Absences indicate that their children will not use the route for certain reasons. With occasional trips, they can change the route and meeting point for a specific date.
